Whether you have already graduated, or will be graduating in a semester or two, ADHA has developed this National Dental Hygiene Board Exam Review Course with YOU in mind. This course is a comprehensive review of content covered on the JCNDE National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) with an emphasis on case studies. The course will cover three general subject areas: scientific basis for dental hygiene practice; the provision of clinical dental hygiene services; and community dental health & research principles. To further help you prepare for the exam, the course will also feature an on-demand module on test taking strategies and methods to further develop and enhance your critical thinking skills. Cynthia C. Gadbury-Amyot, MSDH, Ed.D.
Dr. Amyot, M.S.D.H, Ed.D., Interim Associate Vice Provost of Online Education, and Professor and Director, Distance Education and Faculty Development, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), School of Dentistry. Dr. Amyot has been a full-time faculty member at UMKC since 1993 serving three years as Director of Graduate and Degree Completion Studies and five years as Director of the Division of Dental Hygiene. Dr. Amyot has received numerous distinguished teaching awards from the School of Dentistry and was the recipient of the university wide Elmer Pierson Outstanding Teaching Award. Since 2007 she has served as the Director of Distance Education and Faculty Development where she has worked with faculty to incorporate technology into teaching and learning. She recently received the 2011 Missouri Distance Learning Leadership Award for her leadership in the field of distance learning through the development of innovative online programming, relevant scholarly research, and service to professional organizations.
Harold Henson, RDH, M.Ed
Harold A. Henson, RDH, M.Ed., is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Director of Clinical Simulation at The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. He has held numerous leadership positions at the national, state, and local dental hygiene levels. In addition, he has served on the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), Councils of Education and Member Services. He has authored and co-authored articles in various peer-reviewed journals and has been a chapter contributor to several dental hygiene textbooks. He holds numerous teaching and leadership awards in the profession. In 2009, he was the recipient of ADHA’s Educator of the Year Award.
Tara Johnson, RDH, PhD
Tara Johnson, RDH, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene, has served as a member of the Idaho State Board of Dentistry and as President of Portneuf Valley Dental Hygiene Society. Dr. Johnson has combined her expertise in dental hygiene with pharmacology in her research endeavors related to chemoprevention of oral cancer. She has presented related papers at national and international professional meetings such as the American Association for Cancer Research and published papers in related journals. Dr. Johnson is a member of the Idaho Biomedical Research Institute, the Advisory Panel for the National Center for Dental Hygiene Research, and serves as an examiner for the Western Regional Examining Board.
Christine Nathe, RDH, MS
Christine Nathe, RDH, MS is currently Professor and Graduate Program Director at the University of New Mexico, Division of Dental Hygiene. She also manages the full service dental clinic at UNM. She has published numerous articles in dental hygiene venues and speaks worldwide on dental public health issues. Professor Nathe has practiced in various settings around the world including private practice, nursing homes, prisons, schools, and the military, and consults for various governmental agencies and private dental industry. Her books Dental Public Health and Research: Contemporary Practice for the Dental Hygienist, 3rd Edition and Primary Preventive Dentistry, 7th edition are used throughout the world to educate hygienists on the science and practice of dental public health and primary dental care. She is an editorial reviewer of many dental hygiene periodicals and is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Dental Hygiene. Professor Nathe served as Chair of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Council on Public Health. Professor Nathe has received the Johnson & Johnson/ADHA Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene, the Excellence in Teaching Award from the UNM School of Medicine, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Old Dominion University, School of Dental Hygiene in Norfolk, Virginia, Outstanding Alumni Award from Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Ohio Association of Community Colleges and the Distinguished Alumni Award in Dental Hygiene from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and most recently the Old Dominion University 40th Anniversary Outstanding Educator’s Award.
Kristina Okolisan-Mulligan, RDH, BS, MA
Kristina Okolisan-Mulligan RDH, BS, MA, Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences, and Clinical Competency Advisor for Dental Hygiene students, earned her Certificate and Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene at the University of Detroit. Kristina lectures in General Pathology, Oral Pathology, Radiology, Radiographic Interpretation, Evidence Based Dental Hygiene Care, and Board Review to dental hygiene students, and teaches clinical radiology to both dental and dental hygiene students. Her additional interests include assessing clinical competency and the development of portfolio emerging methodologies. Ms Okolisan-Mulligan is also a contributing editor for “Modern Hygienist” magazine where her column “Pathways” includes her passion, the topic of pathology. She has been the recipient of the Outstanding Clinical Faculty award given by students and is currently a member of ADHA, MDHA, AAOMP, Sigma Phi Alpha National Dental Hygiene Honor Society and Secretary for the Oral Pathology section of ADEA. Ms. Okolisan practices clinically one day a week at a periodontal office. Kristina recently earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction Education at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Keerthana Sateesh, BDS, DDS, MS
Dr. Keerthana Satheesh is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Missouri Kansas City, School of Dentistry. She obtained her DDS from University of Missouri- Kansas City, a certificate in Periodontology and a Masters in Dentistry from the University of Minnesota. She has been working as a Clinical Assistant Professor full time at the UMKC- School of Dentistry since 2003. Dr. Satheesh is actively involved in Clinical and Didactic teaching to the dental students and graduate periodontal residents. She also maintains a private practice as an associate Periodontist part time.
William Hendricson is Assistant Dean for Education and Faculty Development at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; Dental School. Bill was the faculty development specialist for the academic health center in San Antonio where he directed the semester-long University Teaching Excellence Course (UTEC) for 15 years. He was Director of Faculty Development for the Regional Academic Health Center in the Rio Grande Valley and has conducted Master Teacher Courses for the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Texas College of Pharmacy and the Texas A & M Medical School. He directed a year long Research and Grantsmanship Fellowship for the North American Primary Care Research Group for nine years. Bill is Senior Consultant for the Academy of Academic Leadership, where he directs the Institute for Teaching and Learning. He is a member of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education, is an instructor in the ADEA Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program and was Associate Editor of the Journal of Dental Education from 2000 - 2009. He has published 104 papers, chapters and monographs on health professions education and served as a consultant to more than 150 universities and professional organizations.
