Dental Hygienists’ Association Welcomes
First Editor-in-Chief for its National Magazine

22, 2005–The American Dental Hygienists’ Association
(ADHA) is pleased to announce that Christine A. Hovliaras-Delozier,
RDH, BS, MBA has been selected to serve in the new position of editor-in-chief
for Access, ADHA’s national magazine, effective with
the November issue.
In this new position for Access,
Hovliaras-Delozier will collaborate with staff on the editorial
content of the magazine, utilizing her wealth of experience as a
clinical dental hygienist, as a clinical dental hygiene faculty
member, as a researcher and as a corporate marketing manager in
the oral care industry.
In addition, she will author an editorial
column for each issue, solicit articles for publication, review
the content of manuscripts prior to publication and oversee the
entire preproduction process.
“We are confident that Christine will
energize Access magazine, improving its editorial direction
and news coverage while ensuring the relevancy of this key publication
to our membership,” said Ann Battrell, RDH, MSDH(c), ADHA
executive director. “Christine brings her extensive professional
background to ADHA. We are proud to welcome her as our new face
for Access magazine.”
Hovliaras-Delozier has served as president
of her own oral care consulting company, Professional Savvy, LLC,
in Flanders, N.J., since 2002. Previously, she worked in marketing,
professional sales, and research positions for Pfizer, Inc. of Morris
Plains, N.J. (formerly Warner-Lambert Company) for twelve years.
Prior to that, she was a clinical dental hygiene faculty member,
a research dental hygienist and a clinical investigator in the Dental
Research Center at Fairleigh S. Dickinson, Jr., College of Dental
Medicine in Hackensack, N.J. She has also served as a clinical dental
hygienist in a periodontal practice for sixteen years.
Hovliaras-Delozier has served in many volunteer
roles for ADHA, including as a member of the editorial review board
for the Journal of Dental Hygiene, as chair and member
of the council on public relations. She has also been awarded numerous
professional honors. Most recently she received the Pfizer/ADHA
Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene in June 2005 and the United
Who’s Who of Business and Professional Executives in 2004.
Additionally, Hovliaras-Delozier has served in leadership roles
with the New Jersey Dental Hygienists’ Association. She has
been a member of ADHA since 1984.
“Throughout my career, I have met and
worked with many unique dental hygiene professionals who have made
a difference in the delivery of preventive oral healthcare, who
have worked in positions in private practice and those outside of
the clinical environment, and who have helped elevate the dental
hygiene profession to a new level,” said Hovliaras-Delozier.
“Serving as editor-in-chief of Access magazine will allow
me the opportunity to take the expertise and professional skills
I have attained in my career and focus them on changing the magazine
to meet the needs of the practicing dental hygiene professional
of the 21st century.”
Hovliaras-Delozier earned her master of business
administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck,
N.J. and her bachelor of science and associate of science degrees
in dental hygiene from Fairleigh S. Dickinson, Jr., College of Dental
Medicine in Hackensack, N.J.
Access is an informative, four-color
magazine that focuses on health and dental hygiene practice news,
professional issues and legislative developments. It provides late-breaking
news on issues that are important to dental hygienists—managed
care, multiple practice settings, infection control, genetic engineering,
