The American Dental Hygienists’ Association Welcomes
First Editor-in-Chief for its National Magazine

Chicago–September 22, 2005–The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is pleased to announce that Christine A. Hovliaras-Delozier, RDH, BS, MBA has been selected to serve in the new position of editor-in-chief for Access, ADHA’s national magazine, effective with the November issue.

In this new position for Access, Hovliaras-Delozier will collaborate with staff on the editorial content of the magazine, utilizing her wealth of experience as a clinical dental hygienist, as a clinical dental hygiene faculty member, as a researcher and as a corporate marketing manager in the oral care industry.

In addition, she will author an editorial column for each issue, solicit articles for publication, review the content of manuscripts prior to publication and oversee the entire preproduction process.

“We are confident that Christine will energize Access magazine, improving its editorial direction and news coverage while ensuring the relevancy of this key publication to our membership,” said Ann Battrell, RDH, MSDH(c), ADHA executive director. “Christine brings her extensive professional background to ADHA. We are proud to welcome her as our new face for Access magazine.”

Hovliaras-Delozier has served as president of her own oral care consulting company, Professional Savvy, LLC, in Flanders, N.J., since 2002. Previously, she worked in marketing, professional sales, and research positions for Pfizer, Inc. of Morris Plains, N.J. (formerly Warner-Lambert Company) for twelve years. Prior to that, she was a clinical dental hygiene faculty member, a research dental hygienist and a clinical investigator in the Dental Research Center at Fairleigh S. Dickinson, Jr., College of Dental Medicine in Hackensack, N.J. She has also served as a clinical dental hygienist in a periodontal practice for sixteen years.

Hovliaras-Delozier has served in many volunteer roles for ADHA, including as a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Dental Hygiene, as chair and member of the council on public relations. She has also been awarded numerous professional honors. Most recently she received the Pfizer/ADHA Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene in June 2005 and the United Who’s Who of Business and Professional Executives in 2004. Additionally, Hovliaras-Delozier has served in leadership roles with the New Jersey Dental Hygienists’ Association. She has been a member of ADHA since 1984.

“Throughout my career, I have met and worked with many unique dental hygiene professionals who have made a difference in the delivery of preventive oral healthcare, who have worked in positions in private practice and those outside of the clinical environment, and who have helped elevate the dental hygiene profession to a new level,” said Hovliaras-Delozier. “Serving as editor-in-chief of Access magazine will allow me the opportunity to take the expertise and professional skills I have attained in my career and focus them on changing the magazine to meet the needs of the practicing dental hygiene professional of the 21st century.”

Hovliaras-Delozier earned her master of business administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J. and her bachelor of science and associate of science degrees in dental hygiene from Fairleigh S. Dickinson, Jr., College of Dental Medicine in Hackensack, N.J.

Access is an informative, four-color magazine that focuses on health and dental hygiene practice news, professional issues and legislative developments. It provides late-breaking news on issues that are important to dental hygienists—managed care, multiple practice settings, infection control, genetic engineering, women's health, product news, new technology and periodontal trends.

ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.
