| ADHA Announces Recipient of
2005 Distinguished Service Award
Chicago—June 27, 2005—The
American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) has named Irene
Mary Connolly, RDH, MS, of Norfolk, Va., as a recipient of the 2005
ADHA Distinguished Service Award.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement
and dedication to the profession of dental hygiene.
Connolly received her bachelor of science
and her master of science degree in dental hygiene in 1980 and1996
respectively. Both degrees are from Old Dominion University in Norfolk,
Va., where she is now a faculty member in the School of Dental Hygiene.
Connolly has a long history of involvement
with ADHA. Most recently she has been acting as the Virginia state
representative for ADHA’s state education network. She has
served on the Board of Trustees, and in the House of Delegates as
the Virginia District III delegate. She has also served on the council
on research.
Connolly was honored during the opening ceremonies
at ADHA’s 82nd annual session in Las Vegas on June 25.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of more than 120,000 dental
hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide
educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total
