2003 Pfizer/ADHA Award Presented to Ruth
Ketron
Chicago-June 30, 2003 - The American
Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Ruth Ketron, RDH,
BS, MA, Ed.D, CBS, of Kingsport, Tenn., as one of three winners
of the 2003 Pfizer/ADHA Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award.
The award, sponsored jointly by ADHA and
Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, honors dental hygienists who exhibit
excellence in dental hygiene by making significant contributions
to the growth and development of the profession. Winners must be
active members of ADHA for a minimum of 10 years.
Ketron, a dental hygienist for 22 years,
was recognized for her work as a leader in dental hygiene. In addition
to being a clinical dental hygienist, Ketron was also a professor
at East Tennessee State University, president of the Tennessee Dental
Hygienists' Association, and a member of various councils, delegations
and committees.
The recipients were honored during a special
luncheon at ADHA's 80th annual session in New York, N.Y., on June
29. They each received $2,500 and a commemorative award, as well
as round-trip transportation and lodging for the session.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide
educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support the
total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. For more
