ADHA Announces Recipient of 2011 Alfred C. Fones
Award—Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, BA, MS
CHICAGO, July 6, 2011—The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) has named Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, BA, MS of San Carlos, Calif., as the recipient of Alfred C. Fones Award. She was honored during the Plenary Session at ADHA’s 88th Annual Session in Nashville, Tenn. on June 18.
Goldie has been a proud member of ADHA for over 40 years. She earned a certificate in dental hygiene from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971, then acquired a bachelor’s degree in Health Science Administration from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Cali. in 1991. Goldie earned a master’s degree in Health Science from San Francisco State University in 1995. She is currently president of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists, and served as ADHA president for the year 1997-98. She has also been a District XI trustee and served as Chair on a variety of ADHA councils and committees.
This award recognizes a current ADHA member who has contributed significantly to the profession of dental hygiene. The nominees had 25 years of cumulative ADHA membership, dental hygiene association leadership experience, other dental hygiene awards, participation both in the community and with other allied health professions, authorship and political involvement.
ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 150,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.
