ADHA Announces Recipient of 2010 Alfred C. Fones Award

CHICAGO, July 1—The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) has named Julie A. Stage, RDH, MPH, of Sparks, Nev., as the recipient of the Alfred C. Fones Award. She was honored during the Saturday Plenary Session and Awards Presentation at ADHA’s 87th Annual Session in Las Vegas on June 26.

Stage, who is currently employed at Truckee Meadows Community College in its dental hygiene program, received her Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene from Northern Arizona University in 1979 and went on to obtain her master’s degree in public health from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2007. She is president-elect of the Northern Nevada Dental Hygienists’ Association.

This award recognizes a current ADHA member who has contributed significantly to the profession of dental hygiene. The nominees had 25 years of cumulative ADHA membership, dental hygiene association leadership experience, other dental hygiene awards, participation both in the community and with other allied health professions, authorship and political involvement.

ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 150,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.
