Educator Award

Educator of the Year Award
Deadline: November 16, 2009
Recipient Selection: January 2010
ADHA in conjunction with Crest Oral-B is pleased to announce the Educator of the Year Award. This award recognizes, honors and rewards a full-time dental hygiene faculty member who contributes to and is dedicated to providing high quality education to dental hygiene students. The recipient will characterize excellence in teaching, mentoring, and/or devotion to student achievement.
Up to one recipient will be selected.  Recipient will receive the following:

  • Engraved Award
  • Recognition in an ADHA publication
  • Complimentary registration for Annual Session
  • 2 Days Per Diem at Annual Session
  • Air Travel to Annual Session
  • 2 Nights Lodging at Annual Session
  • $1,000 Cash award

ELIGIBILITY:
Individuals should be nominated by a professional peer, a student, alumni, and/or the director of the program or dean of the school. Nominees must be an ADHA member, be a full-time or part-time (no less than 15 contact hours per week) fac­ulty member at either an accredited dental hygiene program, in a dental hy­giene degree-completion program, or in a Master of Science degree program in dental hygiene. A listing of recognized programs can be found at www.adha.org.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST:  
A complete application packet must include:

  1. a completed application form
  2. an abbreviated curriculum vitae
  3. letter/s from nominator/s 
  4. 1 to 2 page summary of most recent student evaluation data
  5. a personal statement from the nominee

ABBREVIATED CURRICULUM VITAE (please limit vitae to 7 pages or less):
The nominee’s CV must include:

  1. name, address, phone, fax, email;
  2. title and rank;
  3. employer;
  4. years of experience;
  5. current and previous academic appointments;
  6. educational background (including any fellowships);
  7. key publications; and
  8. teaching accomplishments, honors, and awards.

LETTER/S FROM NOMINATOR/S:
Nominator/s should submit a letter highlighting the applicant’s contributions to den­tal hygiene education and provide a description of why the nominee should receive the award.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:
The nominee’s personal statement should not exceed three (3) pages (double-
spaced, 12-point font) describing the following:

  1. nominee’s philosophy of teaching;
  2. nominee’s growth in teaching and learning;
  3. how nominee has contributed to student learning and achievement; and
  4. how the award monies will be used to advance teaching in the nominee’s program.

Research Awards

Sigma Phi Alpha Journalism Award
Deadline: March 31, 2010
Recipient Selection: May 2010

ADHA in conjunction with Sigma Phi Alpha is pleased to announce the 2010 Sigma Phi Alpha Journalism Award Competition. These awards recognize a outstanding manuscript submitted by a baccalaureate-, master- or doctoral-level degree completion candidate. This year we will have a new second award category. For the first time, this year’s program, sponsored by a grant from Johnson and Johnson Healthcare Products, will present awards to the outstanding manuscript submitted by a baccalaureate or degree completion candidate and  a second award at the master or doctoral level. This change will allow a more level playing field for bachelors and masters/doctoral authors. Both winning manuscripts will be published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene (JDH) (after revisions if necessary).

Up to one recipient in the Masters/Doctoral category and one recipient in the baccalaureate/degree completion  category will be selected.  Recipient will receive the following:

  • The winning manuscript will be published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene (JDH).
  • Acknowledged at Annual Session
  • Runner-up articles will have abstracts also published in JDH and Access

ADHA in conjunction with DENTSPLY Professional is pleased to announce the Graduate Student Clinician Research Program. The Director of each Graduate Dental Hygiene Program can identify one student to participate.  One Graduate Dental Hygiene student per program would present their research in a standard scientific poster, in the format of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR).
