Students Who Attended Last Year Said…..

I feel certain that I know more about ADHA and current issues in dental hygiene than any of my classmates who did not have this experience.  I feel that I have gained useful knowledge that I will use as a student and throughout my career as a dental hygienist.  I hope to share my experiences with my peers so that they too understand the value of ADHA membership.   - Amanda Marina Romero

After annual session in Nashville TN, I am able to look towards the future and know that my career will always grow further.  I truly took this experience into my heart.  I have more pride for my career thanks to this wonderful opportunity.  Now I will have my confidence in knowing where my membership dues are actually going.  I am also taking wonderful friendships that I was fortunate to make with students from other states and wonderful hygienists from around the country.   - Joanna Kozlowska

Each day in Nashville, I was more and more blown away at how the ADHA goes completely all out with every little, tiny detail to make the week such an incredible experience. From the Sunstar Student Bash to the Honky Tonk and everything in between including the amazing keynote speaker & performer, Taylor Hicks, luncheons and receptions for all the significant hygienists being recognized, comedy acts, speakers and more…just amazing! - Amanda Dews

Attending Annual Session was a wonderful experience and I would encourage anyone to come participate and see what it’s all about.  I would say that for most, after one time, you’ll be dedicated for life and will look forward to it as I’m looking forward to Phoenix, AZ in  2012!  I am recruiting others to go with me next year and I know that they’ll leave as fulfilled and happy as I left this year. - Ashley Nicole Nunn

I have already begun to spread the word about how much fun I had while Nashville. It was the best dental hygiene experience I’ve had so far. - Tammy Berthelot

The conference is a life changing experience. The people you will befriend will forever continue to challenge and motivate you to be a better care provider. I loved every minute of the conference. During the day I learned more about my profession and at night we had so much fun exploring Nashville and seeing the sites.  - Sarah Jayne Woolman

Does My Resume Make Me Look Inexperienced?
1:00pm-4:00pm
Speaker: Kelly Tanner Williams, RDH

Stepping into the workforce for the first time can be very intimidating. You are a new graduate, and you aren’t sure if being new will help you or hinder you when looking for a job.

Could the image you portray on your resume or curriculum vitae prevent you from getting interviews?  In an ever-challenging job market, it's no secret that your resume will either be the tool to get you in the door, or will ensure that your efforts fall by the wayside. It's also no secret that a candidate’s years of experience can be undervalued by prospective employers looking for more experienced dental hygienists.

Countless applicants – seasoned and new – offer resumes that are best categorized as tired, lifeless, or boring. Such resumes are sure showstoppers in the eyes of reviewers who are frequently inundated in resumes. How, then, does a new professional  craft a resume that stands out from the pack, reflecting their experience, energy and attributes to best advantage?

In this course, we will discuss how to control your image using online social networking tools, how to accurately reflect your clinical skills in your resume, discuss industry secrets on how to beat interview stage fright, and get the job you WANT in a competitive job market. At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Control variables during the application process that increase the likelihood of acquiring an interview.
  • Develop a resume that reflects accurate skill sets of the candidate.
  • Understand body language communication during an interview.
  • Utilize online social networking tools to network for jobs and create a professional image.
