This will be an interactive workshop with time for questions and answers throughout the three different parts. The workshop parts are as follows:
Part I: The Kellogg Foundation Five State Dental Therapist Initiative and What it Means to Your Profession:
This portion will provide information to attendees about the history, purpose, and planned efforts related to the Kellogg Foundation’s national dental therapist initiative. The panel will offer background into the AAPHD/Kellogg partnership to develop a two-year dental therapist competencies and curriculum, provide an overview of the state-level advocacy underway to establish the dental therapist model, and will be an opportunity to hear from a dental hygiene colleague about a state dental hygiene association’s partnership with Kellogg on workforce legislation. The panel will provide participants the ability to learn more about the Kellogg initiative and how it impacts dental hygiene education, practice, and state-level advocacy. It is recommended for participants to review the Kellogg Report prior to attending this part of the workshop and come prepared to ask questions to the panel. The Kellogg report will be published with the Delegates Manual.
Part II: Executive Committee/Staff Panel at Annual Session:
The Executive Committee/Staff Panel portion of the workshop will use the President’s and Executive Director’s Annual Reports as background, to provide an update to provide an update on how ADHA’s strategic plan fits into the changing professional landscape and ask questions of the staff and leadership. All ADHA Districts are requested to prepare and submit 3 questions for this panel about ADHA’s strategic direction, programming and initiatives.
Part III: Special Announcement from 2011-12 President Pam Quinones:
For the last part of the workshop, incoming ADHA President Pam Quinones will provide an overview/discussion of an exciting new program developed and presented through corporate support that is designed to address the broad based need for leadership development and how these leadership skills can help to navigate the new landscape of dental hygiene career opportunities. This new program is called: ADHA Professional Leadership Workshop. Better Together.
In addition, a new plan designed to extend the reach of the ADHA President’s travel schedule by leveraging larger oral health meetings will be discussed. This Regional Meeting concept will look at 3-4 key areas where there will be a high saturation of hygienists. The goal of this change is to provide better value to the association and touch as many dental hygienists with ADHA messages by, whenever possible, shifting venues to meetings where larger numbers of hygienists gather.
