Cindy Amyot, BSDH, EdDCindy Amyot, BSDH, EdD is the Professor and Director, Distance Education and Faculty Development at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), School of Dentistry.  Dr. Amyot has been a full-time faculty member at UMKC since 1993 serving three years as Director of Graduate and Degree Completion Studies and five years as Director of the Division of Dental Hygiene.  Dr. Amyot developed online degree programs for graduate and degree completion studies during her tenure as director.

Theresa Anselmo, RDH, BSDH, MPH (c) is a 1991 graduate from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry with a Bachelor's of Science in Dental Hygiene. Ms. Anselmo is the Director of the Oral Health Unit at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Prior to joining the department in 2002 as the Oral Health Program Manager, Ms. Anselmo practiced as a clinical dental hygienist in general and periodontal specialty practices. Since joining the Oral Health Unit, Theresa has gone on to pursue her advanced degree at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

Judy Zack Bendit, RDH, BS was recently appointed to the faculty at Temple University Dental School, Perio Department and is a guest lecturer and advisory board member at Harcum College as well as a part time clinician in private practice. Ms. Bendit travels extensively throughout the country doing educational programs for state and local dental and hygiene organizations, as well as dental dealers. Ms. Bendit has been a long standing member of the ADHA and Distinguished Member of the Academy of Dental Hygiene.  Born and raised in a dental office, she has worked for over 35 years in a clinical environment. Ms. Bendit received a Certificate in Dental Hygiene from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in education from New York University.  She worked for many years in clinical hygiene followed by over twelve years in sales. She is an educational consultant for several dental manufacturers.

Robert Boyd, DDSRobert Boyd, DDS holds degrees in both orthodontics and periodontics. He is currently the Frederick T. West Endowed Chair of Orthodontics of the Department of Orthodontics at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry of the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Dr. Boyd has treated many patients with combined Orthodontic/periodontic needs over the years in his own practice and has focused his clinical research and publications on the relationship of orthodontic treatment to periodontal health and esthetics.

Shirley Branam, RDH, MBAShirley Branam, RDH, MBA is the Central Clinical Educator for DENTSPLY Professional.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Michigan and continued on to complete a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix. Shirley’s background includes over 20 years in clinical and educational experience in the dental assisting and dental hygiene professions.  While a member of the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry, she held various appointments including hygiene faculty member, staff hygienist in the Graduate Prosthodontic Clinic, and research coordinator assistant.  Her areas of expertise include clinical dental hygiene, biomaterials, implants, local anesthesia, and nitrous oxide sedation.  She currently lectures, national and internationally, for DENTSPLY Professional covering topics on ultrasonic instrumentation, anesthesia, caries risk assessment and implant maintenance.

Nancy W. Burkhart, BSDH, MEd, EdD is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics/Stomatology at The Baylor College of Dentistry, Texas A & M University System-The Health Science Center, where she has been a faculty member since 1997.  In addition to founding the International Support Group for Oral Lichen Planus, Dr. Burkhart has presented papers both nationally and internationally on Oral Lichen Planus/ Mucosal Diseases and has published articles in national dental journals.  She is co-author of “General and Oral Pathology for the Dental Hygienist” published in 2008 through Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins. She was a 2006 recipient of the ADHA Crest Award through Proctor and Gamble. As a columnist for RDH, she writes a monthly column titled, “Oral Exams” for the Pennwell publication. Sharlee Shirley Burch, RDH, MPH

Sharlee Shirley Burch, RDH, MPH, EdS is a dental public health consultant, educator and researcher with over a decade of experience as a dental hygiene practitioner and public health advocate. Ms. Burch has served Kentucky’s Dental Hygienists’ Association in a variety of capacities including President and Speaker of the House. She is a multi-published author and national speaker who is also a member of the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society.

Lillian Caperilla, RDH, MEdLillian Caperilla, RDH, MEd graduated from the Montgomery County Community College Dental Hygiene program in 1980. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene Education from Thomas Jefferson University and a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Training from Penn State University. In her current position as National Manager of Professional Education with Premier Dental Products, Lillian travels the world as a continuing education presenter. She also teaches at a variety of institutions in the region, including Montgomery College.

Tim CarusoTimothy Caruso, PT, MBA, MS, Cert. MDT, CEAS is a practicing Physical Therapist who has focused his professional expertise on orthopedics and manual therapy.  Dr. Caruso has worked extensively with the dental profession since 1988.  He works with professional organizations in the areas of management, job analysis, organizational dynamics, wellness, ergonomics and injury prevention.

Monica Eichen, BS is the Team Lead/Program Consultant for the Program Services Branch in the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  She guides a team of five staff to implement the OSH National Tobacco Program and serves as a project officer for the states of Alaska, Minnesota, and Nebraska.  She also serves in a lead role in coordinating program staff of national partner organizations to assist states on tobacco control policy issues. Prior to joining OSH Monica worked as a CDC chronic disease field assignee in Missouri working on tobacco control issues including staffing a local coalition and educating about policy issues.  She also worked in the Iowa Department of Public Health where she worked in several positions including the Chief of the Bureau of Substance Abuse and Health Promotion.

Jodi DemingJodi Deming, RDH, has been a practicing dental hygienist for more than 22 years in periodontal and prosthodontic specialty offices. She is nationally recognized as an expert in endoscope and ultrasonic instrumentation training. Additionally, Ms. Deming has trained European dental hygienists on the art of piezo instrumentation. Kathy Volgt Geurink, RDH, MAKathy Volgt Geurink, RDH, MA is a Clinical Associate Professorin the Department of Dental Hygiene, School of Health Professions, University of Texas Health Science Center. She has been recognized with various awards for her impact on the field of dental hygiene and in advancing the role of the dental hygienist in public health.  Her textbook, Community Oral Health Practice, is widely used in dental hygiene programs nationwide.

Edie Gibson, RDH, BSDH(c)Edie Shuman-Gibson, RDH, BSDH(c), FADIA is a charismatic, knowledge-wealthy presenter with nearly three decades of professional experience.  She is a Certified Educator for the Association of Dental Implany Auxilliaries (ADIA), serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Practical Hygiene, is a Thought Leader for Hu-Friedy, a make-up artist, published author and equestrian.  She volunteers as the Chairman for Tough Enough to Wear Pink, Gunnison Chapter, is a Clinical Advisor/Trianiner for the Implant Consortium and owns her own private dental hygine practice in Creted Butte, CO called About Face Dental Hygiene Spa.

Barbara Gooch, DMD, MPH Barbara Gooch, DMD, MPH is a dental officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta where she serves as senior consultant on issues primarily related to effectiveness of prevention strategies.  For the past several years she has focused on reviews of evidence supporting the update of recommendations for school-based sealant programs by CDC and its Expert Work Group.  Barbara is a diplomat of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Dr. Gooch received her DMD from Harvard University and an MPH from the University of Minnesota.  She was a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Dental Health Services Research at UCLA from 1987-89.

Eva GrazelEva Grayzel was diagnosed with Stage 4 tongue cancer at age 33.  A never-smoker/non-drinker, she endured a partial tongue reconstruction, a modified radical neck dissection and a maximum dose of radiation therapy.  Although a late stage diagnosis for oral cancer is common, Eva’s recovery is unique, and has allowed her to expand her performance career to include speaking to dentists about her journey: her earliest symptoms, diagnosis, surgery, and radiation therapy.

Mary Ann HaischMary Ann Haisch, RDH is an assistant professor in the School of Dentistry at Oregon Health & Science University; she received her dental hygiene education from Clark College, Vancouver, Washington, her Bachelor of Science in Health Education, certification in gerontology and her master in Public Administration from Portland State University.   Her areas of interest include the use of technology in dental and dental hygiene education, interactive distant learning, the use of the Internet for dental continuing education and are actively involved in the development of faculty tools to incorporate interactive technology in dental and dental hygiene curriculums. She is also involved in the recruitment and retention of dental and dental hygiene students. She is an educational consultant and speaker for Proctor and Gamble, has held offices in American Dental Education Association.  Ms. Haisch is on the editorial board of the Dental ResourceNet, The Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice and the Journal of Practical Hygiene.

Presently Ms. Haisch is faculty emeritus in the School of Dentistry and coordinates community outreach activities and continues to see patients.


Lisa F. Harper Mallonee, BSDH, MPH, RD, LDLisa F. Harper Mallonee, BSDH, MPH, RD, LD is a Registered Dietitian and Associate Professor at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry.  In addition to her academic role at BCD, Ms. Mallonee coordinates a dental clinic rotation for the Baylor University Medical Center and UT Southwestern dietetic interns. Harold Henson, RDH, MSHarold Henson, RDH, MEd is currently an Associate Professor at The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, School of Dental Hygiene.  He has served in a variety of leadership positions within the national, state, and local levels.    In June 2009, he was honored as the recipient of ADHA’s/Procter and Gamble/Oral-B Educator of the Year Award.

Kathleen Mangskau, RDH, MPAKathleen Mangskau, RDH, MPA currently is a public health consultant.  She recently served as president of a statewide committee that led a successful ballot measure to fully fund a CDC-based comprehensive tobacco control program, making North Dakota the first state in the nation to accomplish this. Previously, she was the director of the Division of Tobacco Prevention and Control at the North Dakota Department of Health.  She is a past-president of the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors, and was elected to the Executive Board of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry.  Prior to government service, Kathleen was employed as a clinical dental hygienist.

Gayle McCombs, RDH, MSGayle B. McCombs, RDH, MS is Associate Professor and Director of the Dental Hygiene Research Center (DHRC) at the School of Dental Hygiene at Old Dominion University.  Gayle teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and directs clinical research activities and initiatives for the school. Her research interests are in new product and device testing, occupational risk assessment, and exploring ways to measure, prevent and treat common oral diseases.

Linda Meeuwenberg, RDH, MALinda Meeuwenberg, RDH, MA, MA, FADIA is a Professor Emeritus from Ferris State University in Michigan, and the founder/ CEO of Professional Development Association, Inc. providing continuing education programs. She is an internationally renowned speaker affiliated with the International Speakers Network and published in several professional venues.  She holds two Master’s Degrees, is a Fellow with the Association of Dental Implant Auxiliaries, an active volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), co-author of Stepping Stones to Success, 2009 ADHA Hygiene Hero, and brings over 40 years experience to the podium. Linda Niessen, DMD, MPHLinda C. Niessen, DMD, MPH currently serves as Vice President, Chief Clinical Officer for DENTSPLY International where she oversees clinical education, professional relations and corporate communications. Brian Novey, DDSBrian Novy, DDS is an assistant professor of restorative dentistry at Loma Linda University, where he teaches a variety of courses including caries management, research design, evidence-based dentistry, dental materials, and operative dentistry. He maintains a private practice in Valencia, California dedicated to minimally invasive and maximum intervention treatment, and acts as clinical director for three non-profit dental clinics in southern California.

Kathy Phipps, BSDH, Dr PH is an associate professor, at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry and serves as a consultant to the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors as well as the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board.  Her areas of expertise include fluoride and bone density.  She received her BSDH from the Oregon Health & Science University  and her DRPH from the University of Michigan.

Janet Pess, RDHJanet Press, RDH is a Dental Hygienist in general and specialty practice for 31 years, with 12 years clinical experience in soft tissue lasers. Ms. Press holds the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) Standard Proficiency in both Diode and Nd:Yag lasers and is a member of the ALD Regulatory Affairs, Scientific Sessions, and Auxiliary Committees.  Ms. Press conducts national workshops and private dental office consultation/ training programs with emphasis on soft tissue lasers in dentistry, hygiene practice refinement, advanced ultrasonic/piezo instrumentation and team development/communication.

Karen Raposa, RDH, MBAKaren Raposa, RDH, MBA, a Dental Hygienist and Senior Manager of Professional Relations - Colgate-Palmolive Co, is an International speaker on dental treatment for patients with autism.   Karen is a member of Special Care Dentistry Association and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry.  In addition to her title of author of articles and chapters on numerous topics in dentistry, Karen is a mother of three whose youngest son is stricken with autism.

Ellen Rogo, RDH, MEd, PhDEllen J. Rogo, RDH, MEd, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Dental Hygiene Department at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. Her main teaching responsibilities are in the Master of Science program which is 97% online. Recently she completed a PhD in Education and completed a dissertation which lead to the construction of a dental hygiene theory, Synergy in Social Action, on dental hygienists engaged in improving access to care.

Josalyn Sewell, RDH is a 2007 graduate from San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. She is a full time clinical practitioner in a private general practice in Aztec, New Mexico and is adjunct faculty at San Juan College where she is a clinical instructor for a special needs clinic. Josalyn is currently serving as President to the New Mexico Dental Hygienists' Association.

Evelyn ThompsonEvelyn Thomson, BSDH, MS is Senior Lecturer at Old Dominion University's Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene in Norfolk, Virginia and a consultant to the Virginia State Board of Dentistry. Evelyn develops and teaches numerous continuing education courses on oral and maxillofacial radiography, including state approved Dental Radiation Safety Certification courses.  She is a member of  the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and holds an appointment by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations as a member of the National Board Dental Hygiene II Test Construction Committee.

Audrey Ticknor, RDH, MAAudrey Ticknor, RDH, MA has been involved in the field of dentistry for three decades. She joined MAPP-SD (Methamphetamine Awareness and Prevention Project of South Dakota) as a Meth Prevention Coordinator in 2005. Ms. Ticknor has served as ADHA District VII Trustee, President of the South Dakota Dental Hygienist’s Association, and currently is the Secretary/Treasurer for the South Dakota State Board of Dentistry.

Chris WoodChristine Wood, RDH, BS is the Manager of the Nevada State health Division Chronic Communicable Disease section.   In this capacity she supervises the Oral Health, Diabetes Control and Prevention, Comprehensive Cancer Control, HIV Prevention and Abstinence Education programs.   She has worked for the Nevada State Health Division for nine years.  Prior to this she worked as a dental hygienist in private clinical practice for 18 years.  Chris is currently the Executive Director of the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors.

Pam-Zarkowski, JD, MPH, BSDHPamela Zarkowski, JD, MPH, BSDH is currently the Interim Academic Vice President and Provost Professor and former Executive Associate Dean at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Public Health in Dental Public Health and Teaching Certificate in Community Dentistry from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor from the Wayne State University School of Law. An educator for more than 30 years, she has held various administrative roles at the UDM including chairperson and associate dean. In addition to administration, she is involved teaching community dentistry and legal and ethical concepts to pre-doctoral, dental hygiene and graduate students. She has conducted continuing education courses and published in the areas of legal and ethical issues for dental professionals.
